Analysis of a Benthic - Drift Model for a Stream Population
نویسندگان
چکیده
One key issue for theory in stream ecology is how much stream flow can be changed while still maintaining an intact stream ecology, instream flow needs (IFNs); the study of determining IFNs is challenging due to the complex and dynamic nature of the interaction between the stream environment and the biological community. We develop a process-oriented benthic-drift model that links changes in the flow regime and habitat availability with population dynamics. In the model, the stream is divided into two zones, drift zone and benthic zone, and the population is divided into two interacting compartments, individuals residing in the benthic zone and individuals dispersing in the drift zone. We study the population persistence criteria, based on the net reproductive rate R0 and on related measures. We develop new theory to calculate these quantities and use them to investigate how the various flow regimes, population birth rate, individual transfer rates between zones, and river heterogeneity affect population persistence. The theory developed here provides the basis for effective decision-making tools for water managers.

متن کاملDetecting Concept Drift in Data Stream Using Semi-Supervised Classification
Data stream is a sequence of data generated from various information sources at a high speed and high volume. Classifying data streams faces the three challenges of unlimited length, online processing, and concept drift. In related research, to meet the challenge of unlimited stream length, commonly the stream is divided into fixed size windows or gradual forgetting is used. Concept drift refer...
متن کاملAccounting for Spatial and Temporal Variation in Macroinvertebrate Community Abundances When Measuring the Food Supply of Stream Salmonids
The goal of salmonid habitat monitoring programs is to measure habitat attributes linked to salmonid productivity based on protocols that have sufficient precision to detect environmental variation at relevant spatial and temporal scales. Benthic macroinvertebrate community composition often is evaluated as part of habitat monitoring and assessment protocols, despite a lack of direct relationsh...
متن کاملInfluence of trout farm effluents on water quality parameters and benthic macroinvertebrates
The aim of this study was to assess the influence of trout farm effluents on water quality parameters in the Dohezar Stream. In this study two trout farms and 7 stations were selected and physiochemical of water, including air and water temperatures, dissolved oxygen concentration (DO), pH, electrical conductivity (EC), water flow and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) were measured every 30 days ...
متن کاملFitting of two benthic fishes abundance Paracobitis hircanica and Neogobius fluviatilis Using Fuzzy Regression
Knowledge of biological requirements of aquatic organisms in perennial rivers is necessary for protection of biological diversity in riverine ecosystems. Habitat knowledge includes using models for estimating specific properties from physical structure of rivers by simple and accurate methods. Fuzzy regression model was investigated for two common endemic and benthic fishes, Paracobitis hircani...
